Firstly, where did you grow up and live thereafter?
I am born and bred Pretoria boy for most of my life lived abroad a bit then returning to my beloved South Africa.
When did you start DJing – and what or who were your early passions and influences?
My DJ journey started when I was 16 buying my first records from Flipside Records and Trance being my very first influence which progressed into House music. Influences from Paul Van Dyk, Armand Van Helden and Chris Lake.
Who is your biggest inspiration, like who do you have a lot of respect for in the dance music industry?
There are many guys out there doing big things but the guys that stand out for me are Trademarc, Mark Stent and Kyle Watson
What genre/s of music do you usually play to entertain crowds?
Definitely Tech House gets people’s feet tapping.
Could you take us through a day in your life, from a possible morning routine through to your work? Do you have a fixed schedule?
Sure my days are sometimes crazy as I work for Toyota so there is hardly enough time in the day to get to everything lol I wouldn’t say my schedule is fixed but more like flexi if you know what I mean.
Rumour has it you getting married soon. Can you shed some light on that?
Well it’s certainly not a rumour we are planning to get married down at the Coast once the Mrs finds the right spot.
Uhmmm, So…do we get an invite to the honeymoon?
That’s so funny.. I’m sure you may crack an invite to the wedding not so sure about the honeymoon hahahaha.
We’be been told you a good Chef. Can you tell us what is your main speciality in the kitchen? Who you been talking to ???
Hahaha I would say after music, cooking is my second passion and I would say that my Chicken and Spaghetti dish is always a winner!
What pet would you love to have?
We have 2 fur kids Shelly and Harry and wouldn’t change them for anything.
I’m assuming you are a Liverpool supporter… True or False?
FALSE FALSE FALSE UNITED for life!
What do you do when you not DJing?
Spending time with family and friends when I’m not working that is lol
As a DJ, which single night out has been the most memorable for you?
There are a few but being on the same line up as Judge Jules and Neelix are the stand out ones.
What makes you decide to play a particular record during one of your sets? Is there a criteria other than pure subjectivity, for selecting what to play at a gig?
I think knowing what to play is important and when, so knowing what style the DJ before you plays is vital as well as where on the line up you fit in.
What would be a good theme song for your life?
Chris Lake – Only One
If you could eternally be stuck in one year’s music scene, which year would it be?
I would have to say 2000 as that was the year of massive trace music!
What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you play it?
Wow so many to choose from but at the moment it has to be Kyle Watson – Sides.
How do you handle song requests?
Hahahaha I don’t do requests. A DJ is not a jukebox.
What is it that you love about the scene?
The peoples love for music and all sharing in the same love makes me smile.
Future plans? Like what can we expect to come from James E in the dance music scene?
Well I would like to start writing my own music and hopefully play at a few more events/festivals to tick off on my bucket list.
Any special announcements you would like to make to your fans?
Keep dancing and I’ll keep playing them beats…Thank you Truth in Dance for having me on your feature. Much Love!
